Chapter Leader of the Year Award 

The MPI-CAC Chapter Leader of the Year recognizes an engaged member who has contributed significantly to the chapter in the current fiscal year.  Nominees’ contributions may include inspiring other members, creating new initiatives or acting as a catalyst to bring about exceptional results in the chapter.  Nominees will also be considered for their MPI-CAC leadership, industry engagement, community service and recognition by their peers.

Criteria:  

  • Individual must maintain current membership in MPI-CAC.
  • This person must have served as a committee or task force member or as a chapter leader in the current fiscal year.
  • In order to be considered, a nomination by a chapter member must be submitted.
  • Nominee must submit a completed application to be eligible for consideration.
  • 2016-17 Recipient: Rebecca Deluca, CMP, CHME, Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority - Chicago

Committee of the Year Award

The MPI-CAC Committee of the Year Award is presented to the committee whose efforts, initiatives and creativity have resulted in significant contributions to the chapter.  Nominees will be evaluated upon goal achievement, administrative excellence, committee member engagement, leadership succession and innovation or creativity.

Criteria: 

  • This award is based on service from the fourth quarter of the previous fiscal year through the first three quarters of the current fiscal year. 
  • Nominee must submit a completed application to be eligible for consideration
  • 2016-17 Recipient - Education Programs

Eleanor H. Woods Supplier of the Year Award

This award was renamed to honor the career and industry involvement of Eleanor H. Woods, following her passing. Eleanor was the owner of On the Scene, a prominent Chicago destination management company. She was universally respected as an active MPI-CAC member and a highly visible supplier member of the meetings community. This award is presented to a supplier member who has made significant contributions to the meetings industry and is an exemplary representative of our profession. Nominees will be considered for professional experience, involvement in MPI (either locally or internationally), industry engagement, community service and recognition by their peers.  

Criteria:

  • Individual must maintain current membership in MPI-CAC and be classified as a Supplier Meeting Professional.
  • In order to be considered, a nomination by a chapter member must be submitted.
  • Nominee must submit a completed application to be eligible for consideration.
  • Current Board Members are not eligible.
  • 2016-17 Recipient - Supplier: Michelle Castady Orlando, DMCP, 360 Destination Group

Hall of Fame Awards

The MPI-CAC Hall of Fame is comprised of esteemed members and organizations that have made significant contributions to the awareness, professionalism, and growth of the meetings industry and the chapter specifically. 
 
Criteria:

  • Individual must maintain current membership in MPI-CAC or organizations will have at least one chapter member in their employment.
  • In order to be considered, a nomination by a chapter member must be submitted.
  • Nominee must submit a completed application to be eligible for consideration.
  • Current Board Members are not eligible for individual induction into the MPI-CAC Hall of Fame.
  • 2016-17 Recipients
    • Hall of Fame - Organization: Caesars Entertainment Corporation
    • Hall of Fame - Individual: Tracy Furner Stein, HPN Global

Kathy Osterman Lifetime Achievement Award

Created to honor the memory of Kathy Osterman, who served many years in the Mayor’s Office of Special Events.  She was a dynamic public servant who made a significant contribution to the meetings and hospitality Industry in Chicago. In her honor, this award recognizes a seasoned hospitality industry professional that has brought a heartfelt passion to their business and community. This person has contributed greatly to the public’s awareness of our profession and/or chapter. He or she should be a recognized leader within the hospitality industry or influential in the community at large.  

 Criteria:

  • In order to be considered, a nomination by a chapter member must be submitted.
  • Current Board Members are not eligible. 
  • 2016-17 Recipient: Valerie Braun, Arena Americas

Planner of the Year Award

The MPI-CAC Planner of the Year Award recognizes a planner member who has made significant contributions to the meetings industry and is an exemplary representative of our profession. Nominees will be considered for professional experience, involvement in MPI (either locally or internationally), industry engagement, community service and recognition by their peers.  

Criteria:

  • Individual must maintain current membership in MPI-CAC and be in the one of the following categories:  Corporate Meeting Professional, Association/Non-Profit Meeting Professional, Government Meeting Professional or Meeting Management Professional.
  • In order to be considered, a nomination by a chapter member must be submitted.
  • Nominee must submit a completed application to be eligible for consideration.
  • Current Board Members are not eligible.
  • 2016-17 Recipient Planner: Tammy L. Anderson, CMP, Blue Cross Blue Shield Association

President’s Award

This award is at the sole discretion of the current President of the Chapter.  The President may select up to three (3) recipients of a special recognition award aptly named “the President’s Award.”  Criteria for the President’s Award should include at least, industry service, assistance to the Office of the President, integrity, honesty and commitment to the success of the Office of the President and/or MPI.

Tomorrow’s Leader Award 

The Tomorrow’s Leader Award is presented annually to chapter members who have made contributions to the chapter showing dedication to MPI-CAC.  They show promise to be future leaders through their chapter involvement, professional experience, industry involvement or community engagement and recognition by their peers.  

Criteria: 

  • Individual must maintain current membership in MPI-CAC.
  • In order to be considered, a nomination by a chapter member must be submitted.
  • Nominee must submit a completed application to be eligible for consideration.
  • Current Board Members are not eligible.

Young Professional Achievement Award

The Young Professional Achievement Award recognizes an individual 30 years of age or younger with five or less years of professional experience that has made outstanding contributions to the meetings and hospitality industry. Nominees will also be considered for their professional experience, educational background, industry engagement, community service and recognition by their peers.

Criteria:

  • 30 years of age or younger (before 31st birthday at time of nomination).
  • Five or less years of professional experience.
  • Not limited to MPI members.
  • Anyone serving on the MPI-CAC Board of Directors within the last three years is not eligible.
  • In order to be considered, a nomination by a chapter member must be submitted.
  • Nominee must submit a completed application to be eligible for consideration.

EVENT PROFILE

The MPI-CAC Holiday Party is a cocktail reception and fundraising event for MPI-CAC. A portion of the proceeds are used by the chapter to provide education and membership grants for chapter members.

The purpose of MPI-CAC’s NEXT is to provide meeting and event professionals an enhanced one-day learning environment to foster professional growth with impactful education, to showcase the latest technology trends for the meetings industry, and provide substantial networking opportunities in a dynamic, interactive setting.

Golf Classic

EVENT PROFILE

The annual Golf Classic is one of the most popular events that the chapter holds.  This is a great event to have quality one-on-one time with a top client.  It provides a large marketplace for sponsorship presence for both major and hole sponsors, and is a favorite of the membership whether they prefer to golf or come later and attend the reception.  There is always a silent auction and raffle to bring added excitement to the event.

Annual Awards Recognition Gala

Purpose & Objective: During this black-tie optional event, the Annual Awards Recognition Gala celebrates the contributions of our chapter’s hardest working volunteers, and recognizes those who are making an impact on the meetings and events industry. The simple purpose is to just reward and recognize our members. The purpose of this committee is to organize and execute the MPI-CAC Annual Awards Recognition Gala. The committee will work closely with the Office of the President and Awards Selection Committee to develop appropriate programming, presentation and script and is also responsible for managing the committee budget and securing sponsorships for items outside of the budget.

Annual Events: (1) - Annual Awards Recognition Gala (Summer)

Time Commitment: Varies from month to month. Monthly meetings (60 minutes).  Two to three hours per month outside of monthly meetings for committee members and up to eight hours per month for Chairs. Time commitment increases the two months leading up to AARG.

Subcommittees: (7) - Sponsors; Marketing; Event Design; Event Execution/Logistics

 

Awards Selection

Purpose & Objective: The committee’s main focus is to reward and recognize MPI-CAC members and are tasked with cultivating a pool of highly qualified nominees.  From this pool of nominees, the committee will encourage them to complete the application process in order to be considered a finalist.  The committee will review all finalist applications and select a slate of recipients by utilizing the ballot rating system as a tool.  Once the slate is selected, it will be presented for approval by the Board of Directors Executive Committee.

Additionally, the committee will work in partnership with the AARG committee on the Finalist Reception and the Gala.  The point is to ensure that not just the recipients were acknowledged, but everyone that submitted an application (finalists) is acknowledge too.  This will include before, during and after the gala to include letters to bosses, follow up letters after the Gala and any press releases.

Annual Events:  None

Time Commitment: Varies from month to month and is most busy beginning in January through April depending upon the Annual Awards Recognition Gala event date.  One to two committee meetings in person throughout the year, the remainder of the meetings are conducted via conference call.

 

Community Outreach

Purpose & Objective: The purpose of MPI-CAC’s Community Outreach committee is to connect our partner to our membership through a presence at all major events (except Industry eXchange, which selects a charity from across all participating organizations) highlighting the partner’s mission and providing a way to contribute. The committee will also provide volunteer opportunities for individuals and small groups. 

Annual Events: Community Outreach (Annual)

Time Commitment: Time commitment expected for this committee is four hours/month including committee meetings and conference calls. Time commitment for lead committee member the month of the event is 10 hours, including the day of. Ideal committee size is 15 members (all participants must be members in good standing).
Attendance is important. A committee member’s placement will be reviewed with more than one unexcused absence.

Education Programs

Purpose & Objective: The MPI-CAC Education Programs Committee will plan and produce four (4) quality education events within 12 calendar months that will appeal to the diverse needs of the MPI-CAC membership.  The committee will source and select event venues, create and solicit sponsorships, market each event to drive attendance and be involved in content development.

Annual Events:  Fall Signature Luncheon, (two) Knowledge Shares, Spring Education Program

Time Commitment:  Time commitment expected for this Committee is 3-5 hours/month including committee meetings and conference calls.  Ideal committee size is 10 members (all participants must be members in good standing).

Subcommittees:  (2) – Knowledge Shares; Signature Luncheon, Education Programs. This can take an additional five to six hours per event (these responsibilities are shared by both Chairs and committee members). 

Golf Classic

Purpose & Objective: To create an exceptional experience for MPI-CAC golf participants and our sponsors with the opportunity to meet and develop relationships with planners. 

Annual Events:  Golf Classic (June) 

Time Commitment: Time commitment expected for this Golf Liaison is 2-3 hours/month, 3-4 hours for Committee members and Committee Chairs is 6-8 hours a month.  This includes committee meetings and conference calls. (All participants must be members in good standing).

Subcommittees: (5) – Sponsorship; Marketing; Golf Tournament Management; Evening Reception   

Holiday Celebration

Purpose & Objective: The primary purpose of MPI-CAC’s Holiday Party is to provide meeting and event professionals an opportunity to network with over 400 industry colleagues at one event over the busy holiday season. MPI-CAC’s Holiday Party is a premier industry event and one that locals and out of town visitors look forward to attending year over year. The secondary purpose of MPI-CAC’s Holiday Party is to provide significant monetary support to the chapter through multiple fundraising efforts and generous in-kind donations.

Annual Events: (1) – Holiday Party (December)

Time Commitment:  Varies from month to month and in general is most busy beginning in August through December. Monthly meetings (60-90 minutes). Two to three hours per month outside of monthly meetings for committee members and up to eight hours per week for Chairs. Various subcommittees spend more time closer to the event.

Subcommittees: (5) – Logistics; Décor; Marketing; Giving Tree/Raffle/Silent Auction; Sponsorship

 

Industry Xchange

Purpose & Objective: The purpose of Industry eXchange is to provide meeting and event professionals with a unique educational experience where industry trends are presented, questioned and illuminated. This is the premier Chicago event that transcends association membership and highlights the comradery of our industry. Attendees of the event will be association, non-profit and corporate planners, third party meeting professionals and various industry suppliers. The Industry eXchange 2016 Committee will plan the event to be held in July 2016.

Annual Events: Industry Xchange (July)

Time Commitment: Time commitment expected for this committee is five hours/month including committee meetings and conference calls. Time commitment for the month of the event is 12 hours, including the day of. Ideal committee size is 15 members (all participants must be members in good standing of one of the host organizations).
Attendance is important. A committee member’s placement will be reviewed with more than one unexcused absence.

 

Leadership Development

Purpose & Objective: The purpose of MPI-CAC’s Leadership Development committee is to provide our Chapter’s current and future leaders with two one-day learning experiences to foster collaboration, provide training, build leadership skills and inspire them to continue on their leadership path. LDC is also responsible for connecting new committee members that sign up via MPI-CAC website with their requested committee or directing them towards a committee that will be a good fit for them. Committee members also keep a list of leaders within our Chapter and touch base with committee co-chairs quarterly to keep the list current. This committee also recognizes two Engaged Members of the Month

Annual Events:  (2) – Two Leadership Day events

Time Commitment: Mandatory time commitment for this committee is a one hour long committee meeting monthly. In addition members will serve on a sub-committee and will be expected to communicate in order to achieve required tasks.

Marketing & Communications

Purpose & Objective: To serve as communicators and liaisons to the MPI-CAC committees, ensuring that all collateral meets the guidelines set forth by MPI-CAC. Manage the chapters Social Media presence on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn accounts and other resources as required. Produce the bi-weekly eNewsletter, Conversations+Connections.

Annual Events: None

Time Commitment: Monthly marketing meetings (90 minutes). Three hours outside of monthly marketing meetings for committee members to research and write electronic newsletter articles and post on social media channels. Four hours per week for Chairs.

Subcommittees:  (2) – Social Media; Conversations+Connections

 

Membership 

Purpose & Objective: To create a robust and engaged chapter membership.    The committee’s recruitment objective is to grow the existing membership roster.  Recruitment efforts include outreach to non-member guests, participation in local industry trade shows and relationship building with local universities and other MPI chapters to increase the number of student and affiliate members.   

The committee’s second objective is to welcome new members into the chapter and guide them through their first year of membership on a one-on-one level. Each committee member serves as a mentor to a set of new members, assigned monthly, and is responsible for educating them on the benefits of MPI, answering questions and helping them to connect within the chapter. 

Annual Events: (3) New Member Mixers.  The committee serves ambassadors to both new members and non-members at MPI-CAC chapter events.

Time Commitment:  Monthly Meetings (60 minutes), 2 – 3 hours per month outside of monthly meetings.    

Focus Groups: (3) - Marketing, Engagement, Chapter Grants

NEXT Conference

Purpose & Objective: The purpose of MPI-CAC’s NEXT 2017 Education & Technology Conference is to provide meeting and event professionals an enhanced one-day learning environment to foster professional growth, to showcase the latest technology trends for the meetings industry, and provide substantial networking opportunities in an interactive setting.  Previously held as two separate events, EdCon and TechCon, NEXT combines the two concepts into one to provide a more affordable, efficient learning and networking opportunity for industry attendees.  Attendees of the event will be association/non-profit and corporate and special event planners, third party meeting professionals and various industry suppliers.  The NEXT 2017 Committee will plan a one-day education conference to be held in early 2017. 

Annual Events: (1) –NEXT (February)

Time Commitment: Time commitment expected for this Committee is 5-8 hours/month including committee meetings and conference calls during the general planning process.  Time commitment for the month of the event is 20-30 hours, including the move-in day and the day of the event.  Ideal committee size is 15 members (all participants must be members in good standing).

 

Partner Development

Purpose & Objective: To build a strong base of cash and in-kind partner support for MPI-CAC programs and activities. Provide committees with a toolkit to use based upon standards of recognition set for all MPI-CAC partnerships.  Support the committees to ensure the standards of recognition are implemented at all chapter events and manage the relationship with the chapter's contracted cash and in-kind partners.

Annual Events: None

Time Commitment: Monthly meetings (90 minutes). Four hours outside of monthly meetings for committee members.

Subcommittees: None 

 

Summer Networking

Purpose & Objective: The purpose of MPI-CAC’s Summer Networking Event is to provide meeting and event professionals a unique setting to network with other industry professionals. The format of the event helps attendees to meet new people and, in partnership with the Education Programs committee, also provides a unique educational experience via Pecha Kucha sessions.

Annual Events: Summer Networking (late Summer)

Time Commitment: Time commitment expected for this committee is four hours/month including committee meetings and conference calls. Time commitment for the month of the event is 15-20 hours, including the day of. Ideal committee size is 15 members (all participants must be members in good standing).

Trivia Night

Purpose & Objective: The purpose of MPI-CAC’s Trivia Night is to provide meeting and event professionals a unique setting to network with other industry professionals. The format of the event helps attendees to meet new people but also provides more direct networking once at a team table.

Annual Events: Trivia Night (September/October)

Time Commitment: Time commitment expected for this committee is four hours/month including committee meetings and conference calls. Time commitment for the month of the event is 15-20 hours, including the day of. Ideal committee size is 15 members (all participants must be members in good standing).
