Job Title:          Senior Manager, Conferences & Events

FLSA Status:     Exempt

Supervises:       None

Reports To:       Director, Conferences & Events

The ideal candidate is an energetic, forward-thinking and creative individual with high ethical standards and an appropriate professional image. You must be able to work quickly and efficiently on several projects at one time, are results oriented, have strong time management skills and work enthusiastically in a constantly changing environment. The ideal candidate must be fun to work with, able to communicate both up and down effectively and enjoy all the unplanned situations that happen when planning meetings. Travel, both domestic and international, is required (up to 25% travel). 


  • Plan and execute the Association’s meetings (including: ACG InterGrowth® and Leadership Week).
    • This includes but is not limited to:
      • Input on budget creation and management
      • Strong experience in all aspects of event logistics
      • Housing & registration management, ensuring reservations are correct; manage registration vendor, reporting and onsite management
      • Strong and demonstrable experience working with audio visual and general service contractors
      • Support all educational components
      • Manage temporary onsite staff
      • Manage event recreation planning and execution (golf tournament, tennis tournament, 5K, and yoga)
      • Onsite transportation (if applicable)
      • Assist with all VIP management
    • Ensure revenue goals are achieved by working collaboratively with other ACG departments/employees
    • Expense management to ensure bottom line profit is achieved
    • Prepare professional weekly reports and summaries as directed
    • Produce event specifications and manage vendors for all aspects of events (F&B, AV, GSC, temps, photography, transportation, security, etc.)
    • Contribute to overall team success by identifying problems and proactively seeking out solutions
    • Continuously identify methods to improve efficiency of an operation or task
    • Suggest innovations, new ideas and technologies that would add value to internal processes and systems as well as ACG meetings and events
    • Organizes and maintains events templates, project documents, contacts and procedures
    • Organizes and maintains ACG event history (including housing and catering), across the department
    • Develop and maintain a Policy and Procedures manual, security protocols and crisis plans for each event
    • Active participant on planning committee calls and debrief meetings


To perform this job successfully an individual must maintain the confidence and trust of the Director of Conferences & Events as well as the Vice President, Strategic Events & Partnerships and other Senior Staff members and volunteer leaders. The Senior Manager must share the organization’s vision and expectations for organizational culture and service excellence.

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; CMP or CMM desired but not required
  • 7-10 years of experience in convention/trade show industry or event/meeting planning with emphasis on logistics and exhibits management
  • Proven and successful experience with event specifications and orders (BEOs), exhibit requirements, and sophisticated Audio-Visual setups
  • Proven and successful experience managing complex housing and registration programs
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with all audiences at all levels 
  • Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks while conforming to shifting priorities, demands and timelines
  • Ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously
  • High level of attention to detail while working accurately and efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work directly with association members in a responsible, appropriate and service oriented way
  • Travel and work as needed (may include weekends)


  • Individual regularly listens to and speaks with employees, customers, vendors, business leaders, media and professional groups
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret data and information, effectively manage common inquiries or complaints from members, customers, vendors
  • Proven abilities to write and deliver presentations to senior-level audiences


  • High proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Experience with Meeting Matrix desired
  • Experience with housing and registration systems (Libra, Passkey, etc.)
  • Ability to quickly learn other technology as adopted by the team (i.e. membership database)


  • Perform duties in a professional office environment with moderate noise levels
  • Some national and international travel by airplane is required
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds, and over your head
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work long hours leading up to event and onsite (i.e.: up to 16 hrs./day as needed onsite)
