The MPI-CAC Winter Knowledge Share took place on February 8th at the iconic Second City-Up Comedy Club located at the corner of North and Wells. Over 100 event professionals attended the sold out event, which was expertly coordinated by the MPI Education committee led by Brooke Weidman from W Hotels and Lindsay Woike from American College of Healthcare Executives.
After a fun warm up/ice breaker (‘a one word story’) from the talented staff at The Second City, we had 13 minutes to discuss a topic of choice.
The attendees were asked to pick one of five topics to join in a roundtable discussion. The topics included:
How to get the most of our your MPI-CAC membership
- CMP Certification-What, Why, Worthwhile?
- Effective prospecting Tips and Tricks
- Using Improv Skills in the Workplace
- Work Life Balance-Start 2017 Right
The committee brilliantly stocked each roundtable with a facilitator to ensure that the discussion kept momentum from topic to topic. Throughout the evening each person was to select 3 topics. The evening flew by. The format enabled groups to cover a lot of ground while not feeling the pressure of time ticking away.
The mood was light and friendly as we wrapped up the ‘learning portion’ to go into the networking portion of the night at the 1959 Kitchen & Bar one level below the stage. The conversations were very natural as we all talked about the shared experience we just had. The food and drink only enhanced the networking with some excellent mac and cheese, Brussel sprouts and pizza to name a few. For those of us that who stayed after hours, we were also afforded a guided tour through The Second City followed by a performance into the evening.
Overall, a very good night of learning and networking from the amazing Education Committee. The most common take away I heard was throughout your event professional career, remember to make great friends. One more reason for MPI in 2017!
