Ask the Expert Top Golf

Published: Wednesday, May 17, 2017 By: Ted Miller, HMCC, CHME, CHSP, CGTP, CGMP

Question: I have seen the notices for the event at Top Golf but am unsure about the format of the event. Can you shed some light on it?

Answer: The Top Golf facility is a two story building offering either the opportunity to hit balls in a warm environment as a straight driving range or in a precision shot format. For someone who does not play golf regularly the event format has one goal which is FUN.

Question: For those who do not play often is there an opportunity to learn from a teacher?

Answer: The facility does provide an instructor and there are also some members who can teach. This is a low pressure event so when you hit balls you do not have an audience critiquing your play. The event also has food and beverages so the social aspect is very strong.

Question: If I do not have clubs can I still participate?

Answer: The facility does make clubs available from their standard rental club inventory. If you want to learn about different types of clubs to use such as Hybrids you can ask a member who carries them in their bag. I carry 4 in my bag and can help you understand their playability and differences of how they are made to be used.

Question: If you have never played golf is this an environment where you can learn?

Answer: The advantage of this event is its social nature. There are many people who attend who are not there for golf but for the opportunity to socialize. This allows you as much time as you want to hit balls and get instruction. It all depends on your level of interest as to how much you get out of it. As I always tell people wanting to learn, the entire goal of golf is getting to the 19th( The Bar) at the end of play.
